The morel sighting maps are a great way to help each other out a little. Morel hunters often refer to the maps as the morel progression maps, and they have always been a favorite. The Great Morel is often asked “Is it time yet?” or “Are there morel sightings in my neck of the woods?” The maps are a great resource on when one might begin their foraging adventure.
If you would like to submit a sighting, the guidelines are pretty simple, City, State, Zip code, along with and date found. If you want to add any additional information such as county, weather conditions, or an image that is fine (two-image limit). Sightings will be posted periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season.

2024 Morel Sightings Map
The 2024 Morel season is on! The first official Southeast report came in from Georgia in late February and the reports have been strong. The spring migration of the morel has been early, early, early – a common phrase from morel hunters reporting to the map. That being said, the morel season is upon us!

Note: the sighting reports are updated periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season. Markers are dropped on the map by Zip and or Town name, not actual GPS coordinates.

Below the map you can find a table listing of the 40 most recent sightings along with images and notes if they were sent – there is a “more pages” button at the bottom of this table. | Mercer County, PA - Almost mistaken for toads.

| Late to the party - Warm and dry day after we had thunderstorms last week. I was a few days late I think since the morel was not in the best shape and I only found one mushroom. Located in an old and cool sinkhole with a flat bottom, probably 1/4 acre in size next to an elm and a boxelder tree.

| 4/13/24 - The may apples were just beginning to unfurl in this area, and no poison ivy to be seen yet. However, we found a few morels that were pretty big. A couple were even starting to dry out on top despite the almost daily rain we've had for weeks now. Found them under sycamores, everywhere except north-facing slopes. I'm guessing this is the first flush from the heat wave in March and maybe we'll get a second flush in a week or two?

| burn morels - Burn area from 2023, found quite a few burn morels, my first time ever! So stoked! Noticed them more frequently at or around the base of burned cedars or cedar stumps (?) and near roots, but some scattered around. Several seemed past their prime and had maybe been there a while.
