2021 Morel Sightings Map
The 2021 Morel season was a pretty good year for most. The Southeastern states had their first official sighting reported Mar 4, 2021, which means many shroomers are already hitting their spots. The Morels are making their late season progression right on time too. Bullfrog Lake: sighted on the bottom of a south-west facing hill near a large tree. To the north-east is a stone bridge, and to the immediate south of the tree is a small stream. Partly cloudy day, about 70F. Grounds were loose and sandy with many oaks and other trees surrounding the area. Note: In this immediate location at the bottom of the hill, to the east, there has been a metal fold-out chair for years. No photo available. High, dry - Seems very late and way high up for this. A very rare morel + bolete day. July 4, 2021 One (1). I repeat, one. - Mineral County, Colorado So dry. never seen a Morel before - Actual date of sighting – May 3, 2021. Temperature – Lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s. Morel sighting 6/5/21 - I was surprised to find these this late in the season. They were under a shed porch we just built last fall, so shaded. Found eight total in three spots under the porch (right along the edges). They're Still Out There! Found some dandies today! I have to believe we're nearing the end of this truncated season, but who knows! Them little buggers are so unpredictable! Black Morels in the Colorado mountains! Lucky field find - Along the edge of field and tree line. Finally! Near Council, Idaho, Late season this year, but here they are! Yellows! Dry spring with some recent rain. Well drained, sandy soil. First find ever! Giant morel - Sunny, dry, in mixed forest, end of season. Gunflint Trail by Grand Marais MN - We found 2 and that was all but we're hoping we can find more since we found them. Found them underneath a Cedar tree. One day after a light rain. Big Yellows - Been hot and dry, found 7 under an old apple tree, the were all 6" to 8" tall. One Last Hunt Cold and rainy and then sunny. Morel Sighting - Kenora, Ontario, Canada - First morel sighting following the first rain of a very dry spring. Nice Haul - Hillside near dead elms. This was at elevation of 994 feet so it’s a bit cooler than some other areas in MA. The mushroom I saw was not quite at peak. It was growing in the shade near our deck. Northern Utah Sighting - Periods of rain thought out the past week. Highs have been in 60’s. Found three today in our backyard…our Rottweiler accidentally stepped on one. Found several in fresh bark at the new Quilceda Casino in Marysville. Finally found a good haul of palm sized beauties. Dry, hot day up here in Northern Michigan, so they were a little dried out, but still awesome eating. Fingers crossed for some rain so we might squeeze another hunt in before the season is over. Heavy rain yesterday. Found 10 large morels (18.7 oz) on our property when mowing the lawn today. Super super dry spring, did not have high hopes and there they were! About 2lbs. Found in second year burnover. Co. Spgs. Morels! South of Co. Spgs. 1st sighting - Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. First rains hit this week after a really dry spring. Black Morels - Portage la, Prairie, Manitoba Canada morels in Manawa WI May 6, 2021 Lots of large morels, the largest being 9 inches long. Heavy rains past few days, then turned hot. Found along in riparian area near a few cottonwoods, amongst grasses and lots of litter. Partially shaded. Finally above 70° and some rain. the First Supper - Been getting some rain over the last few days and a slow warm up has occurred. Had 3 separate sightings on 5/19/2021. Along driveway and old fence lines that have been removed. Bigfoots - We found 18 morels this size on a north-facing slope near Chaseburg, Wis. Black Morel sighting - Found black morels on 5-19-21 on moss under alder, young maple, birch, and aspen.
